Iranian Presidential Debate 2021

On Saturday, June 5, the Iranian regime held the first round of their televised presidential debates.

These debates reaffirmed the commitment of the Iranian people to boycott the election and express support for regime change.

Only seven of the so-called “candidates” are currently set to appear on the ballot this month, out of nearly 600 who were registered at the beginning.

From the Iranian opposition group, MEK Iran indicate that this election is only a formality. The Supreme Leader of the mullahs, Ali Khamenei, eliminated most of the candidates through his Council of Guardians. He has only allowed seven candidates to run in the election mockery in an attempt to keep a democratic facade for his regime. The candidate favored by the mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is the regime’s current Judiciary Chief, Ebrahim Raisi.

During these debates, the candidates began to blame each other over the economic and social crises in the country and partially acknowledged the extent of corruption within the regime. They recognized the scale of the economic and social crisis in Iran and the role of the authorities in the current disaster.

Mohsen Mehralizadeh, former governor of Isfahan and one of the candidates claimed that 50% of the Iranian people live below the poverty line.

Alireza Zakani, a member of the Khamenei faction, indicated that the national currency has been wiped out.

Saeed Jalili, former secretary of the regime's Supreme National Security Council, pointed out that more than two quadrillion tomans of banknotes are printed daily.

Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, another member of the Khamenei faction, has confirmed that cash has increased 70,000 times.

Simultaneously, the members of the Resistance Unit, MEK Iran, are holding anti-regime campaigns.  They are calling on the public to boycott the mullahs’ sham elections in various cities across Iran. The MEK Iran launched this campaign in April and it has been welcomed by the public. Now, this campaign is turning into a nationwide movement.

The slogan “My vote is regime change” was distributed these days by the MEK Iran internal network.

The nationwide boycott of the sham election is not just a testament to voter apathy. It is the result of a coordinated boycott campaign being promoted by the Iranian opposition, the MEK Iran.

MEK Iran’s “Resistance Units” staged public displays in at least 250 locations across the country in April alone. Their activities persisted through May and June while drawing the attention of various participants in protests over the economy.
