Brandon, MB––December 29, 2021: When it comes to taxes, Canada and the U.S. handle taxes differently, and the two versions of QuickBooks reflect this crucial difference in bookkeeping with the sales tax for the U.S. version and a sales tax plus a goods and services tax (GST) for the Canadian version.
The Canadian version of the program is set up with the sales tax reporting and the correct format for filing and claiming ITC's. The forms for payroll, T4's and ROE's wouldn't be in an American product. When the Canadian version of QuickBooks Desktop, users would not be able to open a file from the US version of the product.
QuickBooks Online Canada is similar to the US version in many ways such as strong accounting, its large selection of features, and the number of integrations it offers. The design and interface is also very much familiar. One downside when it comes to QuickBooks Canada is the limited number of users. The software is not ideal for larger businesses in need of many users. There are only five users allowed on the most expensive version of QuickBooks Online, which may rule this software out for larger businesses.
Additionally, the software is reported to be difficult to navigate and can be hard to find certain features or navigate at times. Moreover, it has been reported that the mobile app can cause glitches.
QuickBooks Repair Pro work towards modifying the nationality of QuickBooks from QuickBooks Canada to US or UK bringing these versions into sync. Payroll checks will be transferred as regular checks with full line item details. Usernames, however, are not transferred from the secondary files to the primary file and users would need to be re-created after the merge.
