People are now willing to live 50 miles to the company office, compared to 23 miles prelockdown
A third of 4564 year olds will look to leave London when they next move
Huge demand for property outside of cities with Winchester seeing 19 times the interest of last year
Around a third of the UK workforce is now likely to work from home for good according to studies, and that is having a huge impact on the property market as people seek bigger homes and greener spaces.
Property Rescue have looked into exactly how the property market is changing as people get used to working from home and has found that in some parts of the country that almost half of people are either looking to move to a home with an office space, or are renovating their own home to include an office.
In London especially it is having an effect. London is the third biggest cold spot in the UK when it comes to demand for property, with a third of those aged 45-64 also looking to move out of the city when they next move.
Winchester is one of the popular locations people from the capital are looking. An hour’s train ride out of the city, the rental market has seen demand rise by 19 times year-on-year, while the likes of Devon and York are also proving hotspots for Londoners.
The trends of people’s work life have changed the market significantly. There’s less of a desire to live close to an office. Prior to lockdown studies showed that the largest portion of people would live no more than 23 miles from their office. Today, the largest portion of people are happy to live over 50 miles away, with journeys to work far less frequent.
Danny Nieberg, Director at Property Rescue said, “There’s been a huge demand for more rural living, as people begin to see the value of bigger properties and open space outside of cities.
“Many people faced difficult periods locked down in flats with no outdoor space, so with many people now working remotely indefinitely, it’s no surprise we are now seeing high demand in the likes of Devon, Cornwall and the Yorkshire Dales.”
