August, 2022 - Season 1 of 1ATH.Studio’s Iggy Dance & DJ Challenge drew to a close on Monday, 11th July after an incredibly exciting first run. The design studio, also the creators of metaverse utility project IggyBoy, pulled the contest together as a way to rally talents ahead of the rollout of its virtual entertainment metaverse vUniversum.
The challenge kicked off in June sending out a call to dance artists and disc jockeys (DJs) whether professional or hobbyists, individual or group performers.
Meet the Winners
The Dance Challenge
The Grand Prix winner in the dance category was Georgia-based group Mess Dance Studio. These guys emerged on top with 186 votes after a submission that prominently featured hip hop but also incorporated styles such as street jazz and dance hall.
Right after Mess Dance was Nero Dance Center. The dance school won $2000 with a noteworthy 163 votes. The dancers in their entry performed a thrilling routine complete with dance types that got the Azerbaijan-based center as far as second place in the challenge.
One highlight of the challenge was Hamutsun Serve Crew, a Japanese dance unit established in 1999. The group became popular for their unique “Animation Dance” after various TV appearances. Even more fascinating, they worked with global pop star Madonna during her 2008 Sticky & Sweet tour.
Another memorable entry came from TGK. Triplets Ghetto Kids is a Ugandan NGO where Music, Dance, and Drama are integral parts of their goal to aid disadvantaged children, street children, and orphans. The group came in 6th and won 600 USD.
The DJ Challenge
Music producer Charlie Atom came on top in this category having amassed 96 votes. Also a DJ and composer, he hails from Mexico, this is not his first brush with fame as he has over 5 million Spotify streams.
In second place was Zinnat, head of Zinnat Music Studio where he is a DJ and a producer. Having been in the business for over a decade, he has worked with big names like Eminem, Bunji, and various more. Quite a versatile artist, he chose to make his Iggy remix in the style Future House and emerged among the top two.
Details of the Iggy Dance and DJ Challenge
For dance participants joining the challenge was as easy as applying and shooting a dance video. However, the twist was that they had to dance to the Iggy boy soundtrack. No mean feat, but the dancers turned out to slay the sound.
The DJs faced similar requirements, they had to submit a remix of the Iggy boy soundtrack. Their versions had to be inspired by the original and full of “Iggyboy vibes.” Generally, the participants got to make all the other decisions, be creative with the sound and put their spin on it.
The Selection Process
To get to the main challenge applicants had to first qualify through an internal vote on their entries among the Iggy team. Later on, the process featured votes from community members on social media and among IggyBoy NFT holders.
Post-vote the DJ participants were ranked 1st-4th and awarded prizes accordingly. However, only 2 dancers emerged as Grand Prix finalists.
Conclusion
Beyond the cash prizes, the winners also get a ton of other benefits; exposure to real-world events and on the Iggy team's social media pages. They will also be part of the season 2 challenge which 1ATH.Studio assures interested applicants is on its way.
Across the board a ton of skill was evident, however, there could only be a limited number of participants as well as winners. With the Iggy challenge over, one thing's for sure vUniversum is set to provide visitors with top-notch performers.
1ATH.Studio’s in-house character IggyBoy is looking to build a huge, fun-filled metaverse-based community. This is a major step towards achieving his dream and the studio’s hopes to become a leader in the digital world.
