Peachtree and QuickBooks: What you need to know

Brandon, MB––July 18, 2022: Peachtree, now known as Sage 50, is primarily designed for midsize businesses who prefer a desktop solution. Sage Business Cloud Accounting also software does have some cloud capabilities. Similar to other desktop software, Sage 50 must be purchased and then downloaded to the computer.

Sage is a cloud-based software product primarily designed for bookkeeping and accounting purposes. It’s most suitable for small businesses, but some additions cater to larger companies, too. Founded in 1981 by David Goldman, today Sage is a well-recognized British accounting company. It started as a small project when the founder wanted to automate and simplify his own business’s accounting processes. Forty years later, millions of clients worldwide from various industries use Sage software. In 2018, the company launched Sage Business Cloud Accounting, a flexible Sage online accounting software for small businesses, formerly known as Sage One.

This program is more complex than many accounting software programs, which may make hold less appeal to simpler, smaller businesses, but if you have employees working remotely, it offers great functionality. Some users report technical difficulties with stock not updating from purchase orders and issues with edit function limitations. There are even some frustrating issues such as the VAT rounding that creates 1p differences on sales invoices. Although Sage does offer a comprehensive support package, some users have reported waiting for a support response. This is particularly an issue for Essential users who don’t have access to phone and remote support.

Another negative that is worth mentioning is that there is a steep learning curve. Users have reported that those who lack IT skills may struggle to get to grips with the interface and find creating templates difficult.

Bookkeeping professionals see the most comparable accounting solution to Sage 50 is within the QuickBooks Desktop suite – offering a similar solution with greater options and a lower price tag.
