Brandon, MB–– April 14, 2022: The QuickBooks Audit Trail tracks all the additions, deletions, and modifications made to transactions in the data file. This report provides you with an easy overview of old transactions or entries you may require if there are some inconsistencies in the bank account.
Each time a transaction is created, modified or deleted, QuickBooks keeps a record of the change, as well as the date, time and the user who made the change. All of this information is accessible by running the Audit Trail Report. Initially, the report displays entries that were created or modified today.
The purpose of an audit trail is to reduce errors, fraudulent activities, and unauthorized system access, improve internal controls, and verify the accuracy of underlying accounting transactions flowing to financial statements.
The Audit Trail Report also makes it easy to locate missing transactions since it provides the fingerprint of each and every transaction that was have recorded in QuickBooks Desktop. With this report, users can easily check all the modified transactions, entries, deleted transactions and even voided transactions. “The Audit Trail Report gives easy access to all modified transactions, entries, deleted transactions and even voided transactions,” E-Tech’s Technical Services Manager John Rocha said.
Due to the number of transactions it holds, the Audit Trail can bring about a large QuickBooks file. As the number of transactions increase in a data file, the audit trail grows by a factor of 2. Removing the audit trail brings down the file size of a data file and speeds up QuickBooks. Removing the audit trail also limits data that is presented to government or other agencies such as the CRA and IRS for data audits.
