International Concert Pianist, Congyu Wang, Set to Inspire and Ignite the Next Generation of Musicians with His New Book

Renowned piano soloist, Congyu Wang, has announced the launch of his first book, The Wandering Pianist: From the Streets to the Concert Hall. Intended to inspire young and upcoming musicians, the book will be released to the public on December 27. Pre-orders can now be made through Amazon, Good Reads, Barnes and Noble, the pianist’s own website, and many more platforms.

The Wandering Pianist offers a detailed look into the intriguing journey of how a young Singaporean, who didn’t even like the piano at first, overcame crippling circumstances to become a highly sought-after concert pianist. With multiple performances in major concerts around the world and two well-received albums under his belt, Wang highlights some of the most pivotal points of his personal and professional life, including his new found interest in the piano, resistance from family members towards his career choice, and struggles faced as he sets out at the tender age of sixteen to a new country, where he couldn’t speak the language, to pursue his dream of becoming a concert pianist.

The Wandering Pianist is largely about transcending self-doubt and adversities. It’s about breaking barriers and doing what it takes to pursue big dreams. A carefully crafted work of 292 pages, the book delves into the author’s unyielding drive and determination. The story takes readers from despairing circumstances on the cold streets of Paris to the pianist going on to play alongside some of the world’s most notable musicians and entertaining major celebrities. Wang weaves a stirring message of defiance, self-discovery, and overcoming the odds, with notes on his numerous plaudits, victories, and participation in major international piano competitions making up the punchlines.

The most absorbing accounts in the book include tackling homelessness and hunger while studying at the prestigious École Normale de Musique de Paris school. Wang’s recollection of living in pressure-cooker circumstances as a child and managing to avoid traditional career and educational paths is sure to resonate with readers. There are also reflections on some of his standout accomplishments, such as earning the title of Singapore’s most promising young musician in 2016 and appearing in over 800 recitals across Europe, Asia, and Africa. The book also impresses through its strong writing, which is delivered in a style that readers, especially music lovers, can readily connect with.

With his expansive list of accolades and a budding reputation for unforgettable performances, Wang hopes to inspire upcoming musicians through his book. The pianist has won grand prizes in notable arenas such as Berlin and Bordeaux. Already, Wang’s literary work and stunning achievements in a short time have been lauded by some of the biggest names in the music industry.

“Congyu is brilliant and sensitive and his interpretations reflect a very special musical intelligence,” notes Carles Lama and Sofia Cabruja, who make up the award-winning duo Carles & Sofia.

World-famous French Pianist and Orchestra Conductor, Francois Weigel, has also weighed in on Wang’s fast-rising trajectory. “Congyu Wang is a young pianist who brilliantly combines virtuosity with the most delicate poetry,” says Weigel.

Published by Piano Island Publishing, The Wandering Pianist is set for widespread release in hardcover, paperback, and digital formats. The book will also be available to guests on Seabourn Luxury Cruises and at all concert venues being played by the pianist in 2024.
