It has been 30 years since the development of Biodegradation Technology, but the proportion of production and application of biodegradation materials in the total amount of plastics is still very low. Polylactic acid (PLA), as the most mature, the largest production, the most widely used and the lowest price bio based plastics, is the most promising degradation material to shake the traditional status of petroleum based plastics in the future and will become the main force of bio based plastics. At present, PLA biodegradable bags, tableware, PLA coated paper packages and other products have been in circulation in the market and entered thousands of households.
From the perspective of the development of PLA industry at home and abroad, with the decrease in production cost and the improvement of performance, the market demand for PLA has increased sharply. Under the guidance of market, PLA has gradually expanded its application scope, which has penetrated into food packaging, medical materials, general plastics, man-made fibers and other fields, and has a growing trend.
Bio degradable and compostable material| PLA
Poly Lactic Acid (hereinafter called PLA )is a new kind of biodegradable material. The raw material of PLA comes from the sugar in renewable plant resources (such as sugarcane, cassava, corn, etc.), which is fermented and extracted by microorganisms to produce lactic acid. Polylactic acid has the basic characteristics of general polymer materials, which can be used for most synthetic plastics. It can be widely used in packaging, textile, pharmaceutical, agricultural, the consumer goods markets, etc.
Polylactic acid is a material with higher contact safety for food because the monomer of polylactic acid is a food additive, also a biocompatible substance, which can be completely absorbed by human body through metabolism. The tableware made of PLA is safe and nontoxic, free of bisphenol A and plasticizer. It can be used in microwave oven instead of traditional melamine and petroleum based plastics.PLA has excellent biodegradability. It can be completely degraded by microorganism in the soil within one year after being abandoned, producing CO2 and water, without polluting to the environment. Truly "from nature, to nature"!
Application of PLA coated paper
PLA coated paper is mainly used for packaging and containers of food products and packaging materials. It is used in paper cups, lunch boxes, packaging, bags, etc. Because the product is completely made of raw materials extracted from plants, it can be 100% biodegradable into organic fertilizer in the laboratory environment for 90 days, fertilizing the land, absorbing carbon dioxide in the air in the degradation process and reducing the room temperature. PLA products have been legislated in some European countries. As a necessary product for food packaging, as a substitute for existing plastic products (petroleum extracts), PLA products are the first choice for packaging materials in the future.
What’ s PLA coated paper?
PLA coated paper is a kind of composite material that uses PLA raw material particles to be coated on the surface of paper by tape casting machine. The main feature of this composite material is oil-proof, water-proof and heat sealing. Different uses take their different characteristics: when it is used to pack hamburgers, take their oil proof characteristics. When it is used for copper plate paper packaging, its water-proof property is taken. When it is used in an automatic packaging machine, its heat sealing property is taken.
