Epic battles between good and evil are waged by android Lawrence, who is imbued with the DNA of his creator.
In 2222 the world’s population is soaring, and 900 robots are sent to Mars to build a community. Reconfiguring one of the robots, Dr. Simon Linsdale inserts his own DNA, and Lawrence is born. On Mars, the other robots send Lawrence to plant a bomb in Yellowstone National Park. Instead, Lawrence places the bomb on a spaceship ready to lift off. Thinking Lawrence finished his assignment, the other robots hang him on a death pole before they enter the doomed spaceship, believing they will soon arrive in a different solar system, away from humans.
After the ill-fated attempt to colonize Mars, in 2251 Paul Linsdale, son of Simon, rescues Lawrence from Mars and refurbishes the robot for PR work. Lawrence refuses that assignment and sets off on his own. Paul, to save his PR project, creates what he thinks is a duplicate of Lawrence. In effect he creates an evil twin, setting the stage for an epic battle between good and evil. The world is still a place of self-indulgence that threatens the environment, and Lawrence’s quest is to fight the greed and prejudices of people the world over, despairing that he, a robot, seems to know more about love than humans do. Lawrence martyrs himself once again to save the earth, while destroying his twin. Shortly thereafter, Paul Linsdale’s baby son is born and named after Lawrence.
Android Lawrence returns as pure energy, entering the lab of his origin, straight to an alien disc brought previously from Mars. Unaware of Lawrence’s return, Paul Linsdale persuades the U.S. Congress to approve and fund an endeavor that will quell the dangerous supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park. For nine years the project proceeds. A ring of 1,000 manmade geysers operate to help Old Faithful bring an end to the supervolcano. Linsdale’s nine-year-old son, exploring his father’s lab, happens upon the alien disk. There he is enlisted by his namesake to help him flee the planet he saved twice. The robot seeks only to live in peace, far beyond the Milky Way Galaxy, with Lilah, the elder care robot who loves him.
