Used transformer oil has always been a matter of concern for a range of reasons which include profits, functionality and environmental issues. Hering waste Oil recycling plants(WORP) procure 2.5 liters of high quality base oil from 4 liters of used oils whereas it takes 160 liters of crude oil to produce the same amount of base oil through other methods. The method also leaves a small footprint with minimum conversion rates that adds up to 3 times sales value of the oil when processed.

Hering WORP is customized to low, medium and high throughputs which have different flow rates of 250, 4000 and 10000 LPH and leave footprints in ranges of 450, 1250 and 2000 sqm respectively. 

The waste oil recycling  procedure involves non-cracking evaporation(NCE) and either Reactivation Clay Polishing System(RCPS) or Adsorbent Mineral Polishing System(AMPS). After flash evaporating water, the residual hydrocarbon is smeared in a thin film over a large area under vacuum. Consequently base oil is produced in low, medium and high viscosity. The sludge is sold as an asphalt extender and fetches revenue for the same.

The base oil undergoes RCPS or AMPS treatment which stabilizes the oil against oxidation and improves the odour, sulphur content and colour besides removing chemical substances. The waste is directly disposed of in landfills without pretreatment.

The plant size is customized for oil processing capacities from 50 to 27,000 liters per hour while the waste becomes biofuel for the front end system.
