Mark Atkinson, a San Diego based actor, has a featured co-starring role in an episode of the new Netflix series… SELENA.

The talented character actor, who is known mostly for comedic roles, is also a writer, producer and unique content creator.

Mark is pleased to announce that he has a featured small part in the very big show, which is currently the #1 show on Netflix, the #1 streaming platform in the world.  

SELENA: The Series is a true coming of age story about the late Selena Quintanilla’s rise to fame, as she became one of music’s biggest Latino crossover artists.  The show explores in great detail Selena’s journey to success, along with her family, before she was murdered in 1995 and became a legendary Mexican icon whose legacy is still strong 25 years later.

Selena: The Series also features a few other San Diego-based actors including; David Fernandez Jr, Anthony De La Cruz and Kayla Sweet.

Mark Atkinson originally hails from Rhode Island and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with BA in Communications and Film minor.  Mark started his career in the entertainment industry in the New England stand-up comedy circuit.  After transplanting to Southern California Mark studied improv at legendary improv institutions The Groundlings and The Second City in LA.

As a result of his determination and hard-work, Mark has been featured in over 70 projects according to IMDb ,which varies in range from student films, short films, web-series (some of which he has wrote, produced or occasional directed) and independent films.  In addition to this, he was nominated and won numerous awards for his performances in various projects.  Mark continues to defy the odds thanks to his talent and persistence that has earned him accolades and respect among his peers.  You may also recognize him from several of the San Diego local, regional, national or even international commercials that have featured him.

While discussing his latest projects that are available for audiences, Mark stated “I currently have two short films making the rounds in the film festival circuit.  “Leave ‘Em Laughing”, a semi-bio, which I helped produce, about the late comedian Dick Shawn’s tragic last performance on stage in 1987.  And “The Power Agent”, a cute comedy I wrote, produced, directed and starred in about a struggling actor’s meeting with his wiser and much younger talent agent.  In addition, Mark is ramping up for another comedy short that he wrote and will produce, direct and star in and possibly work on another feature in 2021, once Covid is under control.”  He added.

Mark Atkinson is with the Shamon-Freitas Talent Agency and HTA in San Diego, but is currently looking for theatrical representation in LA and other regions the US.  Furthermore, he is interesting in connecting with not only managers and agents, but casting directors, directors, producers, actors, comedians, and media outlets as well.  But most of all… He wants to connect with the general public!
