Chulalongkorn University Launches Global Innovator Faculty Program

An exclusive Global Innovator Faculty program has been launched in the newly established Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (ScII). With the aim of inviting the best and brightest young global minds to Thailand, the pioneering Global Innovator Faculty Towards Early-Career Development (GIFTED) program will offer prestigious appointments — the first of its kind in Thailand and the world.

Only four inaugural Global Innovator Faculty designations will be bestowed in 2021, and a fresh call will be issued every year. These positions are meant for exceptional individuals whose work demonstrates significant potential to make a mark in an ever-changing world.

“The SCII-GIFTED program will be an ideal platform for individuals in the early stages of their careers, with impactful, innovative work that can contribute to the advancement of knowledge. The distinguished Global Innovator Faculty members will teach and mentor bright international students and [home] help them emerge as a new breed/generation of global citizens of the future,” said Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Executive Director of ScII.

These positions are intended for tech innovators, entrepreneurs, and digital trailblazing transformers who possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to confront disruptive global challenges.

The program coincides with the second centenary of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand’s oldest and top-ranked institution of higher learning. It also complements the University’s new slogan of “Innovation for Society.”

“Thailand seeks to position itself as an education hub, where knowledge, creativity, and innovation can flourish for the betterment of society,” said Associate Professor Dr. Natcha Thawesaengskulthai, Vice President for Strategic Planning, Innovation and Global Engagement, as the broad contours of the program were unveiled.

“We hope to attract global talents who can utilize Thailand and Chulalongkorn University as a networking hub and foster international academic and research connectivity,” Dr. Natcha added.

Thailand’s success in tackling COVID-19, with one of the lowest mortality rates in the world coupled with possessing a robust public health system while maintaining its reputation as a global hub are attributes that should attract the best international talent to Thailand.

Global Innovator faculty positions will be open to recent promising doctoral graduates with demonstrable impactful practical work with an international outlook.

The School of Integrated Innovation (ScII) is the newest faculty at Chulalongkorn University and currently offers a four-year undergraduate program integrating arts, science, technology, and business with the aim of achieving innovations. To graduate, students are expected to have completed a real-world start-up project focusing on one of the four streams: Digital Economy, Robotics, and AI; Inclusive Community and Smart City; Sustainable Development; and Health & Wellness.

The philosophy and approach of ScII has been enunciated in a four-page documentation https://tiny.cc/6a1ksz.
