Fighting Against the Coronavirus: China Shows Great Efforts for the World

Swift actions with huge human and material resources invested to prevent the transmission of novel coronavirus. The Chinese government carried out several tough measures, such as closing the city, shutting down transportation, and extending the public holiday, which have had a positive impact on the prevention and control of the epidemic.

Wuhan, a city with more than 10 million people, was closed decisively on January 23 in order to stop the coronavirus from spreading. Two special hospitals namely Huoshenshan and Leishanshan were built as well as 6 suburb hospitals were upgraded, providing more than 10,000 beds for patients within 10 days. The newly built hospitals greatly eased the medical pressure in Wuhan, but also showed the incredible speed and national power of China to the world.

January 25, the Chinese leader Xi Jinping established a leading group for the coronavirus epidemic and comprehensively strengthened the frontline for coronavirus prevention and control. Two days later, Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Wuhan to direct the local government.

With large-scale traffic movement control, the coronavirus was effectively blocked in Hubei. All communities in China are mobilized fighting against the coronavirus. Schools have been asked to pick different time slots to start the spring semester to make sure there will not be a concentrated mass movement of students when the new semester begins.

In Wuhan, the center of the coronavirus outbreak, all citizens have been asked for daily temperature monitoring. It greatly helps infection identification and positively prevents the coronavirus spread.

These measures by the Chinese government provide an excellent model for the whole world to suppress the terrible plague.

Int'l community supports China in fighting novel coronavirus epidemic

As the strong measures China has taken to prevent further spread, the World Health Organization spoke highly of China's epidemic prevention work and its contribution to global public health, and emphasized that no travel or trade restrictions are necessary based on the current information available.

Meanwhile, facing the disaster, world leaders and international community show full understanding and firm support to China. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other state and government leaders and heads of global institutions have expressed their sympathy to China over the novel coronavirus outbreak and voiced support to the country's fight against the epidemic.

Some countries and international organizations have provided materials and other kinds of support for China in combating and controlling the novel coronavirus epidemic. China has received materials and other assistance over the fight against the epidemic from Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Mongolia, Russia, Belarus, Turkey, Israel, EU and other states.

Companies, institutions, friendship personnel non-governmental groups and oversea Chinese communities in Russia, the United States, Japan, South Korea and many other countries have made donations and provided hazmat suits, goggles and medical face masks many times.

Among them, Japan's 'heart-warming' support with its national efforts has deeply touched the Chinese people and annotated what great love is. Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that since the outbreak began last month, “the Japanese government and its people from all walks of life have expressed sympathy, understanding and support to us”, adding that she was “deeply touched”. She cited donations of masks, goggles and protective gear – which are in short supply in China – and lighting up the Tokyo Skytree broadcasting and observation tower in red and blue to pray for the country. In the earlier time, to response to the extreme and discriminatory words uttered by some countries, officials from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare countered that what is at fault here is the virus, definitely not people. Chinese netizens said they thank Japanese people showing sympathy, understanding and support in this difficult time.

Beijing expressed gratitude for Tokyo’s handling of the crisis in rare remarks on its long-time rival, despite the wars in the history bred long-time hatred between China and Japan people. It was a stark contrast to Beijing’s response to Washington closing its borders to travelers from the China mainland

Rumors and discriminations, China and its people will eventually overcome the pneumonia epidemic

Human nature has both good and evil sides. Since the epidemic outbreak, masks and protective equipments are in short supply in many countries under the rumors and panics, which increased tension and fear across the world. Anti-chinese rhetoric and violence against Chinese nationals became more and more popular, even in the western world where the degree of civilization is generally considered as in a very high level. The spectre of racism is still haunting in western society: there have been countless social media posts labelling Chinese people "dirty" and "unclean".

Although the WHO director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom emphasized that he does not favor or even oppose travel ban or trade bans against China, the United States still announced a very strict restrictions on China. The United States denies entry of foreign visitors who have been to China in the past 14 days, and announced no more visa application for Chinese citizen. If it is kinds of responses purely for health reasons, to be frank, the United States might be overstretched and overcorrected. However, the problem is the consideration of the United States is not just for health reasons. U.S. commerce secretary Wilbur Ross said the Chinese coronavirus — which had killed 171 in China and infected more than 8,100 people on that day— could “help” to bring jobs to the United States because companies will be moving operations away from impacted areas, and called it was a victory.

Such cold-blooded remarks run counter to the most basic humanitarian values. Even the media normally unfriendly to China showed the awkward and embarrassing for the comment of Ross.

On the contrary, Chinese people have always been firm in their faith and implemented various prevention and control measures. Fear will never overwhelm intellectual virtue, as well as the virus will never be a racist. The virus will never distinguish the color of skin before infection. With the global economy deeply integrated, no country is immune to the virus. What we should do is to take all measures of isolation and prevention to control the spread of the epidemic in a down-to-earth manner. The super power, not only China but also the United States and any other countries, should carry out the responsibility to protect human society. Chinese people and the people around the world will eventually receive the victory in the battle against the epidemic.
