DISPENSARY HOSTS FIRST 420-INSPIRED PARTY IN SOUTH CHICAGO

CHICAGO, Ill., – The 8600 block of South Commercial Avenue will be closed to traffic from 11 a.m., until shortly after 4:20 p.m., Saturday April 20th so residents and businesses may converge and celebrate alternatives to improving their health and overall wellbeing. Organized by Sweet Home South Chicago in partnership with Mission South Shore, the SOUTH CHICAGO BLOCK PARTY is the first of several Spring 2019 events planned intentionally to better unify the South Chicago Neighborhood.

“We are a community coming together to celebrate the wave of legalization and embracing what this pivotal moment in plants can do for people now that accessibility has reached underserved communities like South Chicago,” expresses Luis Vargas of Mission South Shore, the neighborhood’s only alternative medicine and medical cannabis distributor. “Why does everything have to be on the Northside? Let’s stop the divide! We can bring resources to the Southside too. That’s the beauty of this plant. It brings different communities together.”

More than 100 people are expected to enjoy activities including food, live art and giveaways at the SOUTH CHICAGO BLOCK PARTY that preludes the neighborhood’s Arbor Day festivities taking place Saturday, April 27th. During the 4/20 SOUTH CHICAGO BLOCK PARTY, a DJ will be on hand playing popular music that represents the diverse cultures of the South Chicago neighborhood. There will also be inflatables for the children, involvement by Chicago Police, and vendors for party goers to frequent for everything from food and refreshments to apparel and photographs.

“This block party is truly all about strengthening the community,” reminds Dave Price of Special Service Area #5, which oversees Sweet Home South Chicago. “The Commercial Avenue Special Service Area is committed to building communities and building relationships across South Chicago.”
