Yoruba Self Determination Movement - NOTICE OF DISCLAIMER

Yoruba Self Determination Movement (YSDM) utterly condemns the illegal activities of certain unscrupulous individuals who reportedly attacked and seized a Radio Station in the early hours of Sunday, May 28th, 2023, at Ibadan, Oyo State.

Under the leadership of our Chairman, Professor Banji Akintoye, we dissociate from the barbaric actions of these misguided persons and condemn it in the strongest terms possible. These culprits, by their actions, are seeking to tarnish the excellent reputations of our organization as well as the reputations of our leaders – Professor Banji Akintoye and Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho).

To eschew violence, both leaders went into exile in 2021 when the FGN resorted to the use of deadly force in violently quelling the peaceful protests they led across Yoruba Land. They have remained committed to the peaceful realization of our nation’s sovereignty even from their safe horizon outside Nigeria.

The YSDM, as the umbrella body of all peaceful Yoruba Nation organizations worldwide, has been following the peaceful processes laid out by our leaders in seeking our nation’s sovereignty out of Nigeria. We have engaged only in dialogues, in peaceful protests, and rallies both inside Nigeria and in the diaspora. We have also eschewed violence in all forms.

We recognize the existence of some unscrupulous groups that continue to peddle falsehood to self-enrich themselves using Yoruba Nation as a disguise. They have used captions like “Declaration”, “Reclamation” and “Occupation” to conceal their deceptive behaviors and to fool their gullible followers. Recently, they have threatened to have an interim government installed in Yorubaland. Their leader is Modupe Onitiri Abiola whom we have said is not part of our movement.

Therefore, we are not part of those who seek to take a Radio Station by force, or those who may be planning to have an interim government installed and, we deny any fore knowledge of their nefarious activities. We are hopeful that the arms of the law will be enabled to deliver justice to the perpetrators of today’s evil acts.

We warn that lovers of peace including the FGN refrain from using this incident to unjustly label our great movement and our patriotic leaders terrorists because we are not. We will continue to peacefully pursue our national desires until we realize our free and sovereign Yoruba Nation.
Yoruba Nation, No Going Back.

Signed
Moses Abiodun Ojo
General Secretary.
