The integrated digital program, called Act B4 Diabetes launched on World Diabetes Day aims to delay or avert over 1 lakh diabetes cases in the next 12 months. It is open to all overweight people or those with a family history of Diabetes.
India is in the midst of a diabetes epidemic, with more than 77 million suffering from the disease. If that was not bad enough, there is a veritable tsunami of additional diabetes cases waiting to happen as 1 in every 6 Indians is pre-diabetic. This accounts for almost 14% of the population of India.
The catastrophic scenario could however be averted through targeted interventions as most of the cases could be easily prevented from progressing to diabetes. With most of the doctors and hospitals busy with treating existing cases and their complications, there was an acute need for digital health solutions to stem this epidemic.
Obesity International collaborated with digital health companies to deploy an integrated, self-service, diabetes prevention program, called Act B4 Diabetes which consists of scientifically validated digital diagnostic and treatment resources.
Act B4 Diabetes includes diet, exercise, medicines and other obesity management components. The participants can continue under the supervision of their existing doctor or may request for a doctor through one of our partners at a nominal cost.
Act B4 Diabetes is WhatsApp compatible, and brand agnostic. The program is currently open for enrolments and those with a family history of Diabetes or those who are overweight will be given the first priority. As it is a doctor led program, these high risk patients can be prescribed proven medicines for short term to avert the immediate danger of diabetes.
“It is a health problem of massive proportions and we cannot just depend on the Government to help us turn the tide against this epidemic.” Said Himanshu Arora, Country Head of Obesity International. “The private sector has an important duty to chip in, and we are exploring collaborations with pharmaceutical and food companies amongst others to accomplish this goal.”
